Need purchase advice

AT (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 18th September 2000, 17:02

I have carefully read all the advice here, but I need some up to date comments on a sub-£200 player capable of....

1) Region 1 & Region 2 Playback (via remote hack if required)
2) Macrovision disable
3) PAL 50 output of an NTSC title ( to work on an old TV)

Anyone with any advice would be appreciated: most comments
don`t seem to worry about PAL 50 but it is important to me due to the
age of my TV. Is PAL50 the same as psuedo PAL?

Thanks

If you said 220 I would say the Yelo800.
But for under 200 I would pick the Daewoo as it would be easy to replace and is on a par with the Mico.

Scan have just improved the mpeg card of their player, so that should take it past the Mico but their CS if something goes wrong, has a bad rep.

The Choice is your`s.

But if you want to be totally satisfied with your player!
You will have to pay an unsatisfactory price:(

Thanks for the reply. I cannot find any info re the Yelo 800. Any
URLs?

I must admit to be considering the LG 3200E from Techtronix with the
mods, £199: it seems to support Region 1; NTSC>PAL50 and VCR mode.

Any opinions?

Thanks again.

If mine didn`t have to be silver I would go for the Scan at £150
as far as I`ve been told, its the same as My DaewooDHC2200k which does just about everything, MP3, VCD, PAL/NTSC, CD-r..RW oh and DVD`s. Simple remote hack does everything.
I had a look at the LG3350 which is really nice but the problem for me was that none of them play VCD`s
Got to be Silver = Daewoo
Doesn`t matter = Scan
I`m still trying to find out what I can check on the Daewoo before my money back days have run out but I haven`t had a problem yet apart from >>> a WWF DVD a friend lent me which has a lot of scenes in it, when I try and select a certain scene which is a long way from the scene I`m in it doesn`t like it and just keeps trying to pick it up but gets nowhere, this hasn`t worried me to much as the other dvd`s with multiple scenes pose no problem at all,,anybody know if this is a big problem also the WWF DVD is NTSC could this cause the problem??

I have the Mico 980 which does everything you want and more.

Its available from www.unbeatable co.uk for £186.97 delivered but you may have a long wait?

A clone of this player called the Azuda 890 from http://www.ultravideo.co.uk/ for £159 delivered but some people are having troubles ordering.

In Sebtembers issue of "What Video" it said "The Mico offers better value for money than any other machine currently available"

Mine`s working great!!

Can you confirm if it will convert NTSC discs to PAL50/PAL60?

I Think this machine is an Appex clone, which are known for poor picture quality.

They where also a hell of a lot cheaper in the states. That`s why people bought em.
