my chipped sony 725d player has played all problem discs so far but will not play r1 charlies angels i can get menu up and go to sp. features even play fbi warnings but then r map returns. i can get into the engineers service menu but everything yried so far has failed. can anyone help? thanks.

Hi,
Is your player set for automatic region selection? If it is then check to see if you can switch it to manual region selection and set it to region 1. You should then be able to play RCE disks (it works on my chipped Sony player).

I have a sony s335 and I have been reading about this RCE.
I was going to get it chipped using a chip from dvdchips.co.uk, but they are telling me that rce encoded disc`s wont work.
Will the manual region selection set work in my case??

I have a 725 that`s chipped (Techtronics Multimod). With RCE disks, set the player to manual region select and set for R1. You can then play the disk. The really wierd thing that I don`t understand is that you can then set the player back to auto region and it will always play the disk OK. It seems that you only have to do the manual region switch the fisrt time you play each RCE disk.
I have managed to play all RCE disks that I have tried so far, including Charlie`s Angels.

If the player is automatic region selection try putting in a non rce r1 dvd and then taking it out and putting an rce r1 dvd in

I have the Sony 725 (Techtronics Auto/Manual mod) and it plays RCE discs in both auto and manual modes with no problems.
Most auto only sony mods don`t play RCE discs.

I have the Sony 725 (Techtronics Auto/Manual mod) too and don`t have a problem with RCE.
You may have problems if your player defaulted to R2 and then try auto-select. However if you manually change the player to R1 and use auto-select you will have no difficulties like the others have mentioned. Basically you are making the player think it is R1 as default and will auto select region 2 or 4 when needed.
