Recording subtitles from TV programmes to DVD Recorder?

littlewren (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 9th February 2005, 12:35

Hi,

My Dad would like to buy a DVD Recorder and asked if it would record TV programmes with the subtitles, as he is hard of hearing. At the moment, he can record programmes onto his video recorder and they will include the subtitles, but he doesn`t know about DVD Recorders.

I know of course, that he can watch a DVD film which can include subtitles, but this isn`t the problem.

I hope someone can help?

Many thanks,

Carrie :)

Only if they are on Sky & couldn`t be disabled on playback. I would think.

There was many years ago a project to tap off the signals & feed them into a VCR, but it involved taking a feed from each of the CRT guns & was not displayed in the same colours on playback. No longer have the mag unfortunately

If you feed a starving man a fish, he will eat for a day.
If you teach a starving man to fish, he will buy an ugly hat.
If you talk about fish to a starving man, You`re a consultant.

My dad suffers in the same way - incidentally isn`t it annoying that a lot of DVDs do not have subtitles? dad loves Minder but that doesn`t have them, and they don`t broadcast with them either.. I hope they sort it out soon as my lefty is a little bit behind on the hearing front as well!

but as for DVD recorders, like Rassilon said, if they are on the feed they will be recorded.. just as in video.
good luck!
Dave

A Sky+ box or Freeview HDD recorder is a good option .These boxes will allow you to display subtitles on playback, then someone else can watch the recording without subs.Of course these recordings could be copied to dvd with subs on but you would not be able to remove them.
