Yes, I purchased one on Monday. The first DVD player / recorder that we have had.Good value plenty of connectivity any which way in fact. Quality of picture etc very good. Manual supplied is an interesting translation at times. A couple of errors on the Instuctions re the remote.

Overalll very pleased. Particularly for £129

Only downside is that there is no contact numbers etc if anything goes wrong. I am about to contact Superdrug to identify.

Superdrug confirm that it is Guaranteed for 12 Months from Date of Purchase. Any problems return to store together with receipt. Superdrug Customer Services at Head Office. 0800 096 1055

hi, i had no such luck with mine, it will play but wont record, coming up with messages like the `disk does not match imput` or just `failed to record` sometimes it looks like its recording then 15 seconds later says `recording failed` , i found the instructions very unclear, for example it says it may take 30 mins to format a disk but gives no instructions on how to format??

Not wishing to be rude I assume that you are using DVD+ Disks and not DVD-

The 30 Minute Format appears to be erroneous. My disks copy straight away at all speeds and erase within seconds

I bought one yesterday. I found it difficult to connect to all my other pieces, i.e. freeview box & VCR, because the instructions were not detailed enough and I had never come across those type of connectors before. But with a lot of juggling around, and `logical` thinking, I got there in the end. I want to transfer my old video recordings to DVD, and managed to work out how to attach all the necessary bits, and have had some success. Most of my DVD`s are region 2 but I have a few region 1, so I searched this site for a multiregion hack and came across a message about the Avious portable player playing other regions. So I stuck a region 1 in --and it played! Duh! why didn`t I think to try it instead of just accepting that it wouldn`t!
The instructions are badly translated and too basic for someone not used to DVD RW, but with a lot of thinking and refering to the manuals of my TV, VCR, freeview etc, I am getting where I want to be.
I find the remotes signal very weak, have to be right in front of the machine for it to have any effect. My settee is about 5 feet away with no obstructions but the remote won`t work from there. Tried changing batteries, but no luck. Will talk to Superdrug about it, but otherwise I think the Avious DRW-1029 is a reasonable piece of equipment for the price.

Just seen the avious 1029 in superdrug and found this thread. Can anyone say what inputs and connections this machine has please. Does it have firewire input?

Further to this, just been looking at the liteon 5002 mentioned above - same price from argos and that does have firewire. The 5005 is a bit more and is multiformat ie + and - . Is it worth getting dual format?

The 5005 does not have a NICAM capable tuner, the 5006 does. The dual format should not matter too much as both formats are pretty much alike in facilities & will playback in the vast majority of players.

You will need to finalise +R discs before "lending" them out, for +RW this is not required.

DVD RAM has more capabilities in terms of timeslipping (TIVO\Sky+) operations but is not usually supported by other players for playback, DVD Ram recorders usually support -R discs (but not the timeslip function obviously).

The Avious has firewire & NICAM.

If we don`t take care of the customer, maybe they will stop bugging us.

Any idea how to stop it revereting to a 16:9 view despite changing it to Pan Scan? My telly is 4:3 and no matter how often I change the screen shape before recording it always comes out as 16:9.
