Forget the Phillips, thats a common concensus here.
Range of machines from Relysis, Tangent, LG, Panasonic etc from £99+.

are philips really problematic or ppl just do not like them?
heard anything about dvdr75 & dvdr610?
Just check the every growing `Philips DVDR610 troubles` thread. This will give you all you the info on current problems.
I had a 610 for about 4 months but got totally fed up with the various problems and decided to get a refund and am now using the 4kus 230 from Asda (£139). This is a very good machine for the money. There is also a thread on this machine too (search for 4kus).

thanks guys. if i increase my budget to 250-270 pounds, anything good to recommend?
(either just a brand or a model)
JVC DMR10 records in -R, -RW & RAM
Has "firewire" port, "S-VHS IN"port.
Does not have "RGB IN "port.
I paid £220,00 at John Lewis.
I have had a DVD R70 for about a year no problems as has my father. But I would not buy a DVD R610 which was the 70`s replacement. Anyone selling a 70, 75 or 80 is now selling old stock so unless they are really cheap and new I would avoid.
For your updated budget consider the Panasonic E55 £170 - £180 and E65 £200.
I also have an E85, now £330 excellent machine.
