I have a Philips 37. What is the shimering like?
If it is a kind of banding on areas of picture with little or no contrast when the camera pans. example when there is a light coloured plain wall in the backbround you see several layers of different shades rather than a smooth finish or maybe a close up of a face which is filmed out of focus and panned( BBC Casualty does this often ).
If this is the issue you have I`m not sure what causes it or if there is a cure but it affects quite a lot of plasmas even different makes and I think I recall also seeing it on an Lcd, could be wrong there.

Anyoune else got any ideas?

What the Dr is talking about is called solarization and is fairly normal.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

I really don`t quite know what this is but it definitley DOES NOT HAPPEN ON PANASONIC VIERA`s. I`ve had both the 37" & 42" both were as good as or better that a CRT. No strange effects at all.

Sigh, I was waiting for that. It does happen with the panas. Even when set up properly.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY STRANGE EFFECTS ON MY VIERA`S AT ALL. They both performed better than any CRT as well. I, my wife, countless students, friends etc all saw or lived with the Viera`s, There were NO, absolutly NO strange effects AT ALL.
Perhaps this is only Philips & Pioneer But it don`t happen with Pannies`.

Explain the effect.

So you don`t know what it is but you know it does not happen?

Borrow a copy (don`t buy) of Driven. Sly Stallone/Burt Reynolds/cart racing. Near the begining there is a sequence where a private jet pans across the sky with clouds and the sun. This will show you an extream case of solarization. Get back to me on this one, or not like with the site where they were saying that the Pana would do Hi-Def :p

BTW, I don`t know if solarization is the first posters problem

If there is no problem (and I`m a real fussy bugger) then I can`t report one. If I see anything strange on a picture (or hear something wrong with the sound) I`d be on this site asking about it. With 5 months of viewing I saw nothing at all.

Can you explain what this `solarization` is. An educated guess is as per the thread headline (shimmering on a plasma) but we had none of that.

As for TAC, I would have a look at shops that stock the model you have & see if it`s on those set`s as well. I have said many times before that I wouldn`t buy any philips item as all the things they make are suspect & their after sales is s***e, but when I was looking at Plasma`s one of the biggest private shops in our area said they had a load of philips plasmas in & within the week they were all back again. Is there some kind of switching in the menu that does any digital (help) that may be on/off that could cure the problem?

Me and Paull agree shocker, well apart from their shavers.

Solerization. I don`t know how to put it. The best way really is to look at the scene in Driven I mentioned. Please don`t buy it. It is a poor film and only good for a few dem scenes. The tag line on the box was "It`s like Rocky.......But with wheels."

Have got to say I`ve not noticed any strange effects on my panny but I will try to get a copy of driven (oh the embarrassment) and try it out.
Don`t no if it makes any diffrence but I use a JS technology box to change the signal from RBG to VGA rather than scart (wich was a pretty bad picture).
