Hardware Forum
Im looking for an entry level recorder and ghave been toying with the uidea of purchasing the Matsui from currys @ £ 119.
Since then i spotted the Ikus DVR 230 on sale at Asda for £139 .
Has anyone come accross it?Is it any godd etc etc
The usua sda three year guarantee aplies so after two and a half years take it back say it doesnt work and get the upgraded model :)
Great attitude that! Do you also make false insurance claims too? All it serves to do is:
a) put up prices (who do you think pays in the long run?) (and insurance premiums)
b) makes customer service people even more apathetic to people with REAL product problems.
For that much money, stop being so bloody mean!!
Think you may also find that you may get what you pay for.
I got the 4kus DVR-230 from Asda a couple of weeks ago and I`m very pleased with it.
After owning a Philips DVDR610 for about 4 months and having nothing but problems with it (see various threads on here) I took it back for a refund, I then saw the 4kus in Asda.
In a recent What HiFi mag review the 4kus got 4 out of 5 stars. And was highly praised.
The unit, so far, is very simple to use, has DV in (if you have a DV camcorder), RGB input & output (for better quality pictures), multi region playback (via a simple remote control hack) and a very sturdy/well built quality.
There are obviously other sub £150.00 recorders on the market, but I would highly recommend this recorder for an entry level machine.
If you need any further info on it let me know.
PS. Not sure about your views on taking it back. At the end of the day you pay your money and you take your chance.
Steve.

Does anyone know how it compares to the Matsui on sale at the moment????
Brooktop i take it you dont have any information on this model?
I take it the punters on here are too squeaky clean to notice a tounge in cheek comment when they see one!

It`s always difficult to gauge someone`s intentions by reading the written word alone, so if you were making a tongue in cheek comment, then very well, no offence meant. Mr Benn also made a remark about the `taking it back` comment you`ll notice.
Poor customer services is just one of my pet hates, but I do understand that they have a difficult job to do because of loads of time-wasters, incompetent users and chancers! And don`t even get me started about telephone helpdesks!
I`ve found the punters on here to be REALLY helpful and helped me out a few times and the reason I`d always try a forum like this before ringing a (50p a min) helpline (buy our faulty product and then we`ll make money out of you to sort it!!).
I also try to impart what (little) knowledge/experience I`ve got, so welcome to the forum :)
No offence taken.
As in new to this DVR lark and very sorry if i sound a little ignorant but which has the best specs and will be the better choice in the medium term? Whats this + and - all about?
I am looking to use it as a replacement for my VHS recorder so i can take recordings from TV and SKY on DVD to watch at work and when stuck in hotels on my laptop.
Also would like to transfer my old home movie collection from VHS to DVD .
heres another review of the 4kus

I`m also relatively new to DVD R. My purchase decision was based on the info I picked up from this site. I `stretched` to £186 for a multi-region Panasonic E55 from Richer Sounds, because it met my requirements. I actually wanted the RAM system.
Decide what features you want eg compatibility, connections to a camcorder, ease of edit and rewrite, progressive scan, RGB etc etc. Do your homework before you buy. You`ll be able to weigh up for yourself the merits/drawbacks of each format and machine from previous posts (the `search` facility is useful).
You probably won`t be disappointed with whatever you choose as DVDR knocks spots off VHS.
