Page 1 of DVDR Setup Scart help please.

Hello All, I`ve recently purchased a shiny new Matsui DVDR 100 and must admit to being very impressed with the quality of my machine and it`s performance. I have set it quickly at present but now want to set it up ong term. I have 2 scart sockets on my TV, 2 on the sky box, 2 on my DVDR and only 1 on my nicam Video. I do not have any audio out sockets at the rear of the TV.

The question I am asking is, with the information I have provided, is there a preffered method or way of setting up all the scarts so as to be more correct than another way ?

I cannot see how I am going to do this without buying one of those scart boxes, and I didn`t really want to do that.

The other problem I have, is that the audio is in the back of the Sky box, and always worked perfect before, on both sky and the old DVD player, but now, only works on the Sky. Is there a prefferred method here ?

Any help would be appreciated. Also, am I able to write on the top of the DVD+R discs with one of those CD pens when completed, or will this cause me problems ?

Anyways, in this case:
Sky TV scart to AV1 TV
Sky VCR scart to AV1 DVD recorder
If you wish, VCR AV1 scart to DVD recorder AV2 scart.

To record from Sky, set the DVDR to AV1 and the sky box to the required channel.
To record to VHS I`d say use the antenna, but more likely, use the AV2 setting of the DVDR to transfer your video tapes to DVD then remove the VHS.
(Commerciallly bought tapes might contain macrovision copy protection, search the forums for special scart leads)

If you press play on the DVD recorder, the TV will auto switch and show the DVD on AV1, press stop or turn the DVD off, AV1 should go back to displaying Sky.
If you have used the RF outlets on Sky to feed another room, these will not be affected as they always show the sky signal.

Any soft, felt tipped permanent marker will do ok, including the "CD Pen" variety.
Just don`t lean on them too heavy when writing :)

Hi Jimbo, Thanks for taking the time out to write back. Sorry, I mis led you with the audio stuff. What I meant was that I ran those leads back to the Hi-Fi unit amp.

I tried what you reccomended with the Scart leads but it was no good. It would appear that I have to run a scart
From TV AV1 to sky box,
From From sky VCR out to DVD in
From DVD out back to TV
otherwise output is not picked up.
This leaves me with no where to run 1 and only scart from video to. Does this sound correct to you ? It may help if you draw it out.

I also have started a couple of other threads. 1 with ref to another query I have, and the other a general question about discs. You may be able to help me further. :/

I dont think you need the TV AV1 to sky box connection, the signal should be going through the DVD to your TV anyway, even when the DVD unit is switched off.

Therefore you have a spece for the VCR scart into the TV. - or just use the VCR`s RF out to the TV in (using standard co-axial aerial cable)

No, do it as I said.
The reason is that the Digibox has a built in auto switch that when you press play, switches to the VCR, but when stopped, will use the same scart to record Sky via it`s AV1.
So it`s Sky TV scart to TV, Sky VCR scart to AV1 DVDR scart.

If it`s NOT switching, make sure you have a fully wired scart, if pin 8 has been disabled in it, Sky wouldn`t know play had been pressed.
Don`t assume the lead is 21 pin, is neccessary, open one end and check for the wires to every pin.
Some 9 pin scarts are obvious, as they only have 9 pins, but some are 21 pin plugs with only 9 wires connected.

If that don`t work, get a VCR and connect it in place of the DVDR and shove a tape in, press play, and let us know what happens.

Sorry if my post came across a bit much, it was not the intention.
You actually were correct in the double connection, and IIRC, someone recently had the same thing causing a feedback loop.

The reason I say stick with what I posted for now, is to eliminate which item in the setup is faulty (if any), but without others chucking their ideas in, we might never get the problem sorted :D

Never know..this just might be the one setup that ends up requiringt he two scarts as you posted...... ;)
