Page 1 of Lite-On lvw 5045 Superb
Hardware Forum
I have just taken delivery of the new Lite-On dvd recorder with 160gig hard driver. I looked around for quite some time comparing different machines etc etc.
I have to say this bit of kit is superb. For me it was a toss up between the Lite-On and Panasonic with 80gig drive. Although the Tuner picture quality is better throught the panasonic the hard drive space, DV Input and ease of use make the Lite-On for me the best buy.
Two words of warning though . The TV Tuner on the Lite-On isnt great resulting wavey lines when tuned in (Not that noticeable) however if you record from Scart (Sky, Freeview) its perfect.
Also when updating the firmware remember it deletes all your previous settings so u need to re-tune the whole thing.
To sum it up this machine is easy to use (my Wife Can Work It :-) and picture quality even on LP is superb.... Dont hesitate go and buy one...

Where did you buy it from ? How much can you get one for?
Sounds really good.

You can get it for £349 includes free delivery...
Check out www.svp.co.uk they also do the Kiss DVD Recorder which might be worth a look but coudnt find any reviews on it.
Hope this helps
Considering you can get the Pioneer 420 for £318,why would you buy from Liteon. Is the 80Gb extra really worth the hassle?
You have a fair point. But ! the pioneer does not have progressive scan , Cannot write to all formats, Has No Graphic user interface (GUI), Has no component output, Has no DV input and as you mentioned the 80gig drive is half the size. For that lot i would say £50 is worth it wouldnt you. ?
Still just my opinion ... Whats everybody elses thoughts ?
I`d be interested to see what the onboard HDD video editing facility is like on the Lite On..There doesn`t seem to be any mention of it in the specifications.
RE: Lite-On lvw 5045 Superb
Hi Emily,
In my opinion, the editing fuctions on the 5045 do pretty much everthing you need, apart from one, and that is `delete chapter` is needed. There are ways of doing this manually, but it`s messy and timeconsuming as per Richard Lloyd mentioned in a previous thread.
The `split` (video), and `merge`(video) work wevy well.
You can aslo `insert` or remove `chapter markers`.
Add tiles to your recordings, and you can text input them from the remote quite simply, as though you were writing a text on a mobile. I quite like that bit.
So you can actually chapter delete by using the `split` and `merge` functions, it would be a whole lot easier if Liteon had of just added a `delete chapter` function. I`m almost certain this will come in a later version of firmware, as one or two of us on here have pestered Liteon about this (the more the merrier, if you wish to join this cause), and it`s obviously something which the design team have overlooked. All the funtionality is already within` the software, it`s just now they need to stick it together in a macro and call this new function `delete` chapter.
Oh the editing video is all very simpleand intuitive also.
With the editor, you can also set any `still` from the video you have recorded to be the thumbnail in the library; i.e when you use the browser key to see which programmes you have recorded onto the HDD, the thumbnails are displayed with the title underneath.
What more do you want...
:-)
Hmm, I`d hoped it would maybe have some kind of timeline editing where you could cut out sections and piece it all together before either burning or saving to a new file.
I`m not really looking at a HDD/DVD writer right now as I much prefer the convenience of PC editing - that`s why I bought the Auvion PVR.
tHanks for the reply, seems like they`ve a way to go yet!
Does the tuner for the LVW-5045 supports all PAL B
and PAL G and NTSC M? If so Can I use this any where
in the world?
What should I do if I purchased this unit in U.S.A and
want to use it in India? U.S.A has NTSC signals, and
India has PAL B/G Signals.
Can I select the tuner type like NTSC, PAL from the
setup menu before scanning the cable TV channels ? OR
unit will automatically will scan all the channels
inclusing PAL and NTSC ?
If it is not possible, which version of the LVW 5045 I
need to buy to be able to have PAL B/G Tuner
Could you please answer this as soon as possible?

A few things that may cause "wavey lines":
Pin 19 on the SCART lead feeding the DVDR neads to be cut/disabled, (if you choose the wrong end & get a blank screen just reverse the lead)
That something is transmitting on a UHF channel close to another device that utilises the same channel IE Channel 5 transmits on "Channel 36", which was also in use by most VCR`s, requiring a small readjustment to be made to VCR`s & a retuning of the TV to the new Video UHF Channel.
EDIT Not to mention cheap SCART leads. ;)
