hi cw2000, i am wondering if you can help. according to your last lot of postings, you appear to have a oritron 600. i gave my mate the hack to make it multi-regional . it has worked but he can only play back in black and white. is there a setting he needs to change on the dvd player or is it a problem with his tv ? thank in advance for your reply.

I have access to an Oritron 600,

http://allvols.virtualave.net is the best place to get help with the Oritron players, use their forum as it`s full of other Oritron users and is normally the best way to get answer. (look for posts on PAL and NTSC as it sounds like the tv is having problems with the NTSC format of US dvds)

What TV ?
What Connection ?

Sounds like the TV doesn`t like the signal that the player outputs when playing a R1 disc.

The Oritron 600 I have access to is connected to a tv that support RGB Scart so the whole NTSC/PAL problem doesn`t exist due to the way RGB bypasses the colour standards.

From what I remember the player automatically detected the tv supported RGB Scart and enabled that mode, it sounds like your tv does not support RGB Scart and so it`s defaulting to composite via Scart which does suffer from the NTSC and PAL problems.

What firmware version does your player have ? (try pressing "Menu" twice as it should pop up a box with firmware version, should be a number like 003, 004 or 005)

The Oritron 600 is rumoured to be able to convert NTSC to PAL but I have not tried it as I don`t need to, Someonw on http://allvols.virtualave.net messageboard posted a while back about how to enable the conversion, I can`t check it at the moment as the message board seems to be down.
