Liteon LVW 5005

I`ve just purchased one of these units from Argos, and I`m having difficulty with some DVD`s, not all, causing picture distortion on the bottom third of the screen. This part of the picture is slightly darker and flickers and has a black bar running through the middle of it. Any ideas what it might be? The disks in question play fine on my other player.

Are you hooked up through any other kit like a VCR?

No, I`ve got a direct link to the scart socket. I`ve even tried different TV`s. I`m using the cable supplied, CVBS, but I have tried a fully wired scart cable, same result. Do you think it could be something to do with the macrovision protection on certain DVD`s? Anyway, I`m going to try a firmware upgrade to see if that makes any difference.

I`ve now done a firmware upgrade and it`s cured my problem. Just one other note, on the Hercules DVD (Disney), on some of the bonus selection screens, the options writing doesn`t appear. Anyone seen this before? This doesn`t happen on my other player.

Pete,

sorry to be a pain, but did you update the firmware using LNFBE076.DSU.0102.024x.rar downloaded from the Liteon website ? I cannot get it to work - I burnt it to CD in ISO format and also tried renaming it as LNFBE076.DSU but the machine just says that it is a data disc and displays "FILE" on the display panel. I am now on my second machine and don`t want to have to return it again but it I cannot get it to work I will have to.

The support from the Liteon website is practically useless - I guess you get what you pay for !

You have to extract the LNFBE076.DSU out of the downloaded file. RAR is a zipped file.
