First a little introduction, I with a few other scan owners set up a user group for this player and we now have over a 1000 members. so if you want the opinions of them join the group and ask there. http://www.geocities.com/scan_group/

1) Yes its a good player and in my opinion the best in its price range.
2) Yes it does work
3) Yes it is hackable and works with RCE disc`s with out any hassle
4) Yes

But this is my opinion based on what I need from a player. If you tell me what your after in a player I can point out to you how well the player would meet your requirments.

I bought the Scan for the features it has.. Every DVD I played had problems. I also got fed up of upgrading the firmware. The customer service I am receiving is very poor. Next time I`ll just go to a local retailer and pay the bit extra.

You pay`s your money, you takes your chance..

Better to pay £200 for a DVD player which has some faults than £1000 for a DVD player which you expect to have no faults. (Hmm Sony?)

You`ll always get nightmare stories about products like the scan 2000.

But then again, you`ll always get people who`ll give you nightmares. i.e. people who dont know how to even wire a plug with the personality of a swamp rat.

I`ve own a scan sc2000 for 7 months without any major problems.. and the picture/sound quality has just got better with the latest firmware release... Join the Toy Car web site and find out more about this product.

I Disagree with what your saying, you can`t start comparing prices like £1000 with the Scan player.
Most of the brannded DVD players mentioned here are around the £200 markish and thats what most people on this forum are paying.
If you go to somewhere like www.romulus2.com and check out the reviews for Scan you will see what i mean their CS is terrible that i believe this was the point of the last 2 posts being made!.

Hey read the first sentance of Toy_Car`s post. There are over 1000 members of the Scan forum and it has only been going for less than 2 months. Ask them the question. My opion is that the Scan is an excelent player.

It seems everyone has had mixed experiences from SCAN and their players. I for one am a happy owner and haven`t had any major problems with the player. As far as I`m concerned, it does exactly what it says on the box. I am VERY pleased that they release constant firmware updates because it means I can upgrade my player and fix any potential problems that may arise on my own. Let`s face it, NOTHING in this world is 100% perfect, there`s always going to be niggles with any thing. "Grumble, mumble, don`t want to keep updating firmware". Well, you payed for a budget player. Look around at some other similarly priced players. How many of them can you just whack a disk in to fix? Not many. Most have to be taken back to the shops or returned to the e-tailer. Then ensues the nightmare of trying to convince them that that there`s actually something wrong with the player and it`s not you just being fussy. If you do manage to check out the Scan owners group, you`ll see lots of people with problems, but also just as many people with solutions. Doesn`t that give you peace of mind that if you have a problem (which I and MANY others have never had), you can log on, post a message and if you`re lucky, you`ll have a solutions from either Scan directly or from one of the techies on the site within a few minutes. Usually within an hour or two someone comes along with a solution. Isn`t that far better than having to trundle all the way back down to Curry`s or to arrange a day off work so the player can be picked up etc etc?
I`m rambling, but basically I`m happy with my Scan player and am very glad that there`s such an active involment from the support group and from Scan themselves who often reply personally to problems on the group`s message board.

WPKenny

PS, to actually answer your question, the latest firmware has macrovision disabled, it`s multi region, plays MP3 disks, and the price is excellent for what you get.

It Dosen`t say every CD player wil intermittenly freeze... I don`t think the issue is the player.. If it dosen`t work fair enough, Give me one that does - it`s just the service is s***... No replies to my e-mails (The ones that matter)... When am I getting a pickup - RMA29522
