Firmware on LiteOn LVW 5005

StickyStephen (Competent) posted this on Monday, 29th November 2004, 16:36

Bought one of these from Argos and very pleased with it. I downloaded the official firmware from LiteOn which had the file extension .DSU . I burnt it onto a cd-r and put in the recorder which then upgraded itself from the disc. No problems.

I then downloaded the unofficial hack to give 3hr recording and MV free whch has extension .D00 . Burnt it onto cd-r again but the recorder spat it out saying it was a data disc.

Does the second firmware have to be renamed to .DSU to work?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have had the same problem as far as I can tell the new firmware from the official site has yet to be modified.

I tried to update the modified firmware before and after I did the official update and neither time it worked. I also noticed the difference in file types between the firmware files "seemed strange to me"

Sorry I can`t be any help just wanted to add a coment.

Cheers.

Was it the firmware file LNFBE076.DSU.0102.024x.rar that you used to upgrade succesfully ? Can you let me know how you did it as I cannot get it to work although I burnt it onto CD as an ISO file. Does it need to be renamed LNFBE076.DSU ?

A prompt reply would be appreciated as I need to take the machine back this weekend if I cannot get it to work, as the flicker is driving me crazy !

You have to unarchive this file using winzip. Once unzipped you will see a .DSU file. This is what you burn to a cdr.

You can get winzip from www.winzip.com

Hope this helps.

I have tried to unzip it but Winzip says that it is not a valid archive !

Any other ideas ?

Thanks for your help though.

StickyStephen,

GROVEL, GROVEL, it looks as if I am using an old version of Winzip that does not support rar files ! I will try again this evening, assuming that the replacement recorder I have just picked up has the same fault !

For information it looks as if there is now another machine on the market that handles both +/- formats - the Yamada 8200. If I get nowhere with the Liteon I will explore that avenue.

Once again, thanks for your help

Don`t know if this information will help or not but here goes.

My experience is with the USA versions of the Liteon 5005 and 5001. I have two 5005 units and they are very different as far as the firmware goes and with which type firmware they can be loaded with. The older version was manufactered in June 2004 and it came with LNFA1063. I installed the hack version of the same firmware and everything worked as expected, 3 hour mode, etc. However, the newer version of the 5005 with a manufacture date of Oct 2004 came with LNFA1085 (as I recall). I immediately updated it to the current version (LNFA1091) at Liteon`s website without any trouble. Next I tried to update it again to a hacked version of the same firmware. The newer 5005 will not take the hacked version, nor will it let me try to install the same updated version (LNFA1091) again. It simply ejects the CD without any comments on screen or DVD display. It appears that once installed you cannot go backwards or even back to the same firmware version.

My 5001 has the hacked version of LNEA1163 firmware installed and it works well. I also have the newest version of LNEA1176 from Liteon for the 5001 and LNFA1076 for the 5005 already hacked by me but I am waiting to install them when the next Liteon update comes out. I suspect that I might not be able to go back to an older version. I certainly can`t go backwards with the newer 5005 because I tried.

Hope this helps.

I forgot to mention that the newer 5005 has a serial number that starts with the numeral "6" and the older one has a serial number that starts with the numeral "2". These are the numbers printed on the box and at the back end of the units. I also didn`t mention when the numbers listed on the setup screens were entered into the Liteon website to get the latest firmware for these units, two different firmwares versions were available to download, LNFA1091 for the newer one and LNFA1076 for the older one.

Can anyone give me some advice please, as many others I have a 5005b bought recently from Argos it is an August 2004 model.
I have not used it much yet but it all seems to be set up and working okay.

The real question is do I need to update the firmware yet ? is there anything new I would gain ?

Many thanks and dont have a Blue Christmas

Elvis

The chances are your F/Ware will be the most up to date and as such you will not be able to update the F/W anyway.
When Lite-On release the next F/Ware update for the 5005 it is planned to allow you to enable a three hour recording setting and possibly further refinements to the Divx compatibility and then it would be worthwhile updating it.
