Page 1 of Image cropping on widescreen TV - help!

Hi. I have a Sony 28" widescreen TV and Sony DVD735 DVD player. I have noticed, in comparison to playback on my computer, that some left and right cropping of movies reproduced in 2.35:1 aspect ratio is present when viewing through my TV/DVD setup. I contacted the supplier of my DVD player and he assured me this was not a player problem. Instead, he said that many TV`s crop images in this way and that I should contact Sony about the TV. I have never heard of this before. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or can anybody give me some advice before I approach Sony?

Sounds like you need to go into the service menu on youtr TV (or get an engineer out to do it for you if you`re not confident) and adjust a few settings. More and more TVs seem to need this sort of tweaking until you get a perfect picture. How bad is the cropping?

Cropping is not excessive but annoying. How do I enter the service menu on my TV?

how to get into the service menu depends on the model of the Sony tv

Its a Sony KV-28DS20. Rich informs me my remote needs a "teletext off" button to enable the correct combination (see seperate thread "Message for Bear or anyone else with a Sony TV). Unfortunately, the one supplied with it (RM 888) doesn`t have one!

I`ve got a Sony KV-28FS20. What aspect ratio do you have the TV on when you notice this cropping - "WIDE"?

Widescreen doesn`t behave as I want it to unless I tell my DVD player I have a 16:9 TV.
