Thanks to Jimbo and Paull for their help with my E55 set up problems.
I still,however, have one issue which is in recording with the Ext Link from my Freeview STB. I set the timer on STB and then press the Ext link, which turns off the E55 as expected. Unfortunately, all that then happens is that the E55 almost immediately switches on and starts recording whatever channel is on the STB at that time.
Any suggestions?

Stabbing in the dark here... External link does not work if you have the AV2 in set to RGB on the E55. AV2 in must be set to video.
External link is a compromise. Works great but you lose the improved picture quality of RGB in. I chose RGB in instead and just use the normal timer function on the E55.

Possible cause is that the free view box being live (switched on instead of stand-by) is activating pin 8 (I think it`s pin 8) the function pin that tells other equipment to turn on. Try switching the STB to stand-by. I presume you have a STB with timer facilities to control the E55 if not the Ext Link button should not be used.
