Page 1 of Best Budget DVD Recorder - Liteon or Yamada - Please help !

Ok i have £150 to spend on a DVD Recorder.

Which has the best features, picture/sound quality etc. and can be made Macro Free and Multi Region:

Yamada DVDR8000 (£149 Richer Sounds)
or
Liteon 5005

Any help would be great as i want to go and but in on Tuesday.

A wait of a few weeks, some extra saving and a Panny E55 I believe would be the answer.

Dunno what current bargains can be had on them, but I`m pretty sure everyone here would say it`s worth hanging on if you can.
I know nothing about the two makes listed, but give it a day or so as Emilyhoward seems pretty well versed on the LiteOns

Don`t know about macro free-I don`t think either are/can be, but the 5005 has far more features-writes to + and - and cdr, but doesn`t have a stereo tuner so if you plan on making any off air analogue recordings, then you won`t get them in Nicam Stereo. The Yamada does have a nicam tuner.

I`d go for the 5005 if it was a choice between them, but I`d be more tempted to go for the 5006, which is mainly the same, but has RGB input and (I`m told) a stereo tuner-Retailing around £170- £199, but you may find it on line in your budget

If you check maplin or umax there is a new yamada out now with extra functions on it.
I have the yamada 8000 its good but i think the 5006 [liteon] is better closely followed be the new yamada .The panasonic very good but too dear for me.

hi, i`d save up just that little bit more and get a DMRE55, i just got one from richer sounds for a price matched £194.96, multi region.
they should (as it says in their ad) beat it by £10. but i was happy with it at that.buy it with a visa card, register it with them and get an extra years warranty.

Better check the card`s T&C`s because most of them exclude the purchase of Plasma/LCD TV`s and computer equipment, amongst some others.

I can only say as I have found!
The only system of DVD recorder with error correction is the RAM system but it was too expensive at the time I bought so I bought the +RW system and for a while had few problems the odd disc gave error readings but I put that down to cheap discs by varying the write times I found I could use the discs untill I came to about the 10th or 12th re-write on all the more expencive discs then the dreaded "disc error" kept coming up which renders the disc unplayable. This becomes very annoying after losing the tale-end of the programme you wanted to watch I was having to use my old VCR on the most important recordings (like F1 or Top Gear).
I now have a new recorder that is the RAM system. It only cost 40% of what I paid originally but nobody told me about the error correction on the RAM system everybody slaited the +RW`s but didn`t give a good technical reason why it wasn`t as good

If it was me I`d save a little more and buy something like the Panasonic 55E which use :) s the RAM system

Oh no you had to go and mention that DVD-RAM was great, look out for the Ph and P postings soon folks............LOL.

This may be curable with a PC DVDR drive.
DVD Recorders work similar to the older CD audio recorders when it comes to erasing/rewriting discs in that they erase the header and TOC from the disc, but not the actual data.
This is then rearranged by the new recording, and would appear to have been recorded on a "blank" rw disc.

PC drives have two options: Quick Erase (does exactly the same as above) and Full erase, which wipes the disc entirely.

I had a similar experience with a CDRW Audio that wouldn`t go by 30 minutes, wipe in the PC drive as full erase, voilla! full fledged rewritable again!
