Panasonic E55 ,excellent machine ,report and question

Thank you all for advice I have read on this forum which helped me choose this machine.I am very pleased with the picture quality, I cant realy tell recorded programs from live broadcasts. The DVD RAM discs will play in my S35 player so by using the E55 time slip function Its possible to watch a previosly recorded program whilst recording another (if its on the same disc) but if its on a different one I can watch it on the player.I can`t see you can get better than that!
Datasafe Ritek DVD-R at 40p each from SVP(including postage) work great, work ok on the S35 and also on my computer.
The only feature that doesn`t seem to work is" To specify a time to stop recording" page 18 in the book. When the record button is pressed say twice , it should stop after 30 mins but mine doesn`t. Anyone else found this?

I have the E50 and it only works if you press the record button on the recorder and NOT on the remote :(

Yes its a good machine but I don`t think it`s as well built as the E50 and therefore I`m less confident in it - just a subjective feeling mind you I`ve had absolutely no problems with either machine.

My only `complaint` about the E55,compared with the E50 I still have,is that I often get a `fan` type noise.
I don`t think it is a fan.
It`s the same sort of sound you get when you insert a CD/DVD in your computer.
A sort of whirring/whooshing noise for a few seconds.
Sometimes during recording, sometimes during playback,RAM or DVD.
No rhyme nor reason to it.
Not a big deal, but can be a wee bit offputting during a film.
My E50 has never ever done that.

Other than that both machines have been faultless.

Hi 1bowfer`. I have bothe the E50 & E55. I haven`t noticed any noise at all with either, maybe you have a problem. We record some stuff late at night early morning on the E50 & you just don`t hear it, if it made the slightest noise the wife would have it out.

Interesting. My E50 is more or less silent with just a faint murmer during finalisation. The E55 however does have a fan type noise at more or less random intervals but always at the start of finalisation. That said its about twice as fast at finalising as the E50.

By the way Boot`s are selling the E50 for £199.99.

Exactly.
I wonder what they`ve changed that the E55 does this, but the E50 is always silent. :/
Given that you and I both get the same thing I would venture it`s normal.
It`s hardly a problem,just a `foible`. :D

Probably the ability to write to the disc faster than the E50 could. More than likely has the same drive unit the later hard drive models have and I believe they can dub to disc faster from the HDD than previous models?

Oh, and the noise, especially if it`s from when the disc is inserted is "spin up" as the machine recognises the disc.
Does the 55 recognise the disc faster and sit waiting to record/enter playback than it does with the e50?
That was my only gripe ever about my E50...takes ages to recognise a disc, but when it does....piccy quality is....wowwwwww!

And if it`s still on the go at £199....wonder how much I should look for on mine and finally get it off! Lol
