Page 1 of Indoor Tv Aerial and Freeview Box Questions.

Since i am at college and it doesn`t provide any Aerial. I am forced to buy a Indoor one to watch TV. To make the matter worst i am leaving on the first floor.

I brought an ONE for ALL Flat Indoor Antenna that promise the earth but didn`t deliver. ( I brought it in Maplin does any body know if i can return it ? ) I orginally wanted a Philips SBCTT650 but Argos didn`t have it in stock.

Then i hear Freeview Digital Box could get some a slightly better Quality even with poor Analoge signal. My BBC1 , 2, ITV are have about 1/4 width of white dot going up and down ( Are these called snow? ) But Colour is ok. I have read many saying they have bad analoge but they never mention how bad they are. So i can not judge if i should try to get a Freeview box or not.

Any ideas/ recommandation?

I`d try and borrow a freeview box first..It`s true that in some circumstances, the picture via freeview will be better (My C5 is crap off analogue, but is fine on freeview), but if you aren`t getting enough signal to give you a decent analogue signal on the main channels, you will probably find you won`t get a thing off a freeview box.

Try before you buy

Id say you`d need to be within 10 miles of a main (NOT repeater) transmitter to had any success with an indoor aerial!

I am thinking of Buying a Philips SGT650 indoor aerial with a Philips Digital TV Box. Do you think this is wise.

I see the Philips say it can go up to 39db.... but i saw another PC world Aerial can go up to 43db.....

So which one should i choose?

Most portable ariels are a con,go to poundland they do them for a quid,cant see anything you buy will work in your situation though, you need to be higher.

Is it wise? absolutely not-not without trying it out first-If you get it and it doesn`t work , you are just out of pocket.

As I said before, try and find a mate with a freeview box and try it on your current aerial-if you get something then buy a better aerial and try it again-then if it`s all coming in, buy the Freeview box.

Make an aerial, I did, works fine with or without freeview!!

I live in one of those "maybe" areas where Freeview is concerned. I bought a Freeview box off eBay and an indoor aerial from Poundland and to my astonishment - it worked! Our analogue picture is pretty rubbish but the Freeview picture was just fine. The only downside is that a few of the channels were missing but I got the main ones OK.

or buy a freeview box from argos and if it doesnt work you can take it back :-)

Evryone gets (Rightfully) annoyed when manufacturers or retailers try it on or try to pull a fast one, yet when we try and do the same to them, why do people think it`s ok?

If you can live with yourself doing that, fine, but don`t ever complain when it`s done back to you.
