I have just bought the Goodmans 300 DVD Recorder. It is fine except. If for example you have recorded four 1 hour programs. If you wanted to keep the last one and record over an earlier one. This DVD player won`t do it. It deletes everything after were you start it. Hope you got the jist of it.
My question is, 1..Am i misssing someting in the instructions. 2..Is there a player that will do it (tape over an earlier program while keeping what was on at the end. PHEW
Thanks in advance. Sam

Here we go...time for the RAM arguements again ;)

Which is the simple answer...DVD-RAM axtively seeks the "empty" space on the disc to add them together and record to them.

Either that is one crap DVD recorder, or its broken. my Phillips DVDR70 (dons hard hat and jumps in bunker ready for incoming verbal abuse!) in that situation will only record over the amount of program the new recording goes over. any time after that is left untouched. I think that is about standard for any DVD recorder regardless of it being a plus or minus type RW disc. If you only have just got it, I would take it back to the shop.

OK, I have a + disc recorder, a Philips DVDR70, but I`m sure it goes the same for -disc`s and other +disc recorders as well. If not I`m sure someone will let you know otherwise.

If recording on a once only disc.i.e. an +R disc. what you record stays. The next recording automatically records after it until the disc is full.

On an +RW disc, i.e., a re-recorderable disc, the recording will start wherever you have stopped the recorder during playback. You can of course move that point over previous recordings backwards or forwards to start the new recording on the disc where you want. just like on a VHS tape recorder.
