Sorry I do not have a DVD recorder so all I can say is that you should get a good quality DVD+ / -RW such as Philips for day to day repeated use and then for keeping recordings for posterity use Datawrite Yellow or Red top DVD / -R 4X .
I would also try recording to a CDR at SVCD quality. Probably good enough for half hour shows, Simpsons etc, and perfectly viewable although NOT DVD quality. By recording as SVCD you could effectively record a complete series of say Enterprise on 22 cheapo 80 minute CDR`s. So for about £3 you have a whole series backed up and if the recordings are scheitte you have only wasted £3 .
Is the model you have the LVW 5005B and if so does it have Scart in/out on the rear.

Just e-mailed Amazon and asked if it has Scart sockets.
The only reason I asked was that several sites have diiferent models available and simply show the item as an LVW 5005. Apparently the 5005B is the model with the scart sockets and TBH I will not even think of ordering one until I know for sure what the connections are on the rear.

Scheitte its 5-0 for the hoops.
I have just got the 5005 model from amazon.co.uk and can confirm it is the model with scart sockets.
It`s the 5005B model, and the B stands for Europe model with scarts
