Another Philips DVDR75 Problem

JohnMoore (Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 8th September 2004, 09:29

Hi

I got the Philips DVDR75 (in the UK) last week and up until now have been delighted with it.

Last night I came home to find my display reading BLOCKED.I had set up 3 timer recordings but assume this had happened after the second because the third was not on the disc.

No advice in instruction manual so telephoned the Unhelpful helpline to be told that this is caused by either static build up or lightning. No lightning here so they say the cause is static build up. Nothing they can do apparantly. Just something that may happen from time to time.

Now lost confidence in getting my timer recordings and pretty annoyed at the shoulder shrugging attitude of the helpdesk.

Anyone had the same problem or has anyone got any advice.

I know this sounds lazy but I would like to solve this problem if possible as I bought the DVD online so a wee bit more hassle returning it faulty.

send it back and get a panasonic, sorry it`s not the answer you wanted, but it`s the only way you`re likely to have a trouble free player.

I am glad you are pleased with your panasonic but unfortunately it does not help me with the problem that I came to these forums for.

Anyone with any real advice?

lol, it is real advice, i`m just trying to ease the hassle you`re gonna have, trust me i`ve had first hand experience with phillips machines and the easiest thing you can do is send it back, of course you could just give me another snotty reply, then i can just laugh at you :D

This is not a fault. Its whats known as a dealer "Lock". Somthing for use when displaying on the shelf in the shop.

Un-plug, hold Play, Stop and eject down whilst plugging it back in. Worked on mine and never had a problem since.

Hope this helps.

So the ogster , given John72`s reply, who was being the smart-arse?

We all know their are people on the forum who for reasons good and bad do not like Philips DVDR`s, but when someone asks for help over a matter your reply was crass.

Thanks for your constructive reply John 72. I have done as you suggest. Unfortunately with a problem of this type only time will tell if it solves the problem but fingers crossed.

I agree PGibbs there are some people who can`t see beyond their own equipment. Thankfully there are some genuine helpful people on the forums too.

Thanks again.

John.

if you look over the very vast amount of my posts you will see that i allways try to help out, i gave you an honest answer based on my own experience with phillips recorders and other`s that have posted on the same subjects, as i say, i have owned (2) phillips recorder`s so the there are some people who can`t see beyond their own equipment qoute is bollix :p phillips recorders ARE plageud (sp) with faults both in day to day use & reliability, (in general) so you can shove that qoute up you`re arse, and it should also be mentioned that johnmoore gave the first SNOTTY reply, i only gave one back :D and i am REALLY looking foreward to laughing my arse of when you`re machines go tit`s up (especialy if it happens a couple of days out of warranty) :D

hope this helps :p :D

You welcome, thats what the forums are here for. Did it un-lock the try?

I do realise that Philips DVD recorders have had alot of problems, I myself have had problems with my DVDR880. However, the problem that was oraginaly deiscribed in the first post is not of the many "fualts" that Philips DVD recorders had and have.

It is simply a feature proggramed into the firmware of the recorder for the dealers in the shop so they can lock the try to stop people from opening it, prehaps to stop people from taking out the disply disk that is playing.

Once again, you welcome.

Hi John72

It unlocked the system although form your post perhaps I never made myself clear on the original problem.

The system was not locked when I purchased it in fact I had used it for a couple of days and only had the problem when coming in from work hoping to have the timer recordings I had set up.

Thanks again.

Ogster ??? your family must be so proud of the way you conduct yourself.
