LCD or Plasma

B.M.F (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 2nd August 2004, 11:37

This is more of a question, and its not about DVDs but saying that I`m sure that some one will have an opinion on this matter.

Which is best and why? an LCD now theyre getting larger or a plasma tv?

LCDs have a contrast rario of 500 to 1. My Panasonic Plasma has a ratio of 4000 to 1. (most plasmas are less) This means I get White Whites & Black Blacks. I like the idea of LCD but perhaps in a couple of years.

I would take that with a pinch of salt. While the contrast is good, there is no way it is 4 times beter than the Pioneer. I think they use a different method to get there readings, in the same way you read watts in RMS, Din, PMPO, Music power and get a diferent power reading each time.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

"I would take that with a pinch of salt"

Salt`s bad for my blood pressure (as is phelings) so I`ll do without.

But to be honest, I really went for the best picture regardless of manufacturer (apart from philips) & having got thje Plasma home it is really, really great. I am so happy with it. I prefer it to my Toshiba picture screen 36". I have no idea what they do in shops to make plasma & LCD look so bad, I really don`t (with the exception of your`s & others who take there job seriously). Just under £2300-00 & I have a Panasonic plasma 37" & a Panasonic E55 DVD Recorder. One thing I did notice about LCD was there seemed to be a little drag on moving things & a slight blurry on Freeview. There were times though they looked quite good. Andrew, do you have one of the Panasonic 37" in your shop?

No I don`t. I have ran out of room and there is only so much money in the pot.

Don`t get me wrong I think the panas are some of the best plasmas out there. I just don`t believe it is 4000:1 contrast.

It`s called lazyness. Conecting up with the leads you get in the box (compersite) rather than cracking open a good quality scart/componant lead. Also I will make a bet that they are still on factory setting dispite the local conditions. With the acseption of sharpness that will have been turned right up (Noooooooooooooo)

Anyway, All the best,
