Kameleon remote`s battery life

I. Merriman (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 1st August 2004, 07:52

Don`t know if anyone else has had this problem...

The battery in my Kameleon need changing every 3-4 weeks. I`ve noticed the display turns on/off a lot, even when I`m not touching it.

So I contacted One For All and the next day, got this reply:

Quote:
I am sorry to hear that the battery consumption of your Kameleon is not satisfactory. It is true that the EL technology used in this particular handset does make the battery life shorter than it might be the case in other kinds of remote controls.
Still, the batteries should last in average between 3 to 6 months with a minimum of 2 months.
Even if the sensitivity tolerance might vary from unit to unit, the battery consumption is
mostly affected by the environment and the frequency the Kameleon 6 is used.
Here are a few tips that may affect the battery life:
- the brightness of the screen can be reduced by pressing Magic until the rabbit pops
out, 974, holding down or pressing repeatedly the CH - key, pressing Magic to store the
setting
- avoid holding the Kameleon in your hand for long periods of time
- avoid leaving the Kameleon on your lap
- avoid placing the Kameleon on unsteady surfaces like couches, cushions
- avoid placing the Kameleon on surfaces sensitive to vibrations like glass tables or
shelves.

Should the battery life not be improved despite this advice, we can offer you a
replacement or the permanent disabling of the vibration switch so that the Kameleon only
turns on after a key press. These two options are possible provided the One For All is
under warranty (purchase within 2 years and proof of purchase).
Therefore, please send your One For All (without the batteries and without the manual)
with a letter indicating:
- the reason for sending: replacement or disabling of vibration switch
- your name, full postal address & daytime telephone number
- in case of replacement only: the make and the model number of the devices and the
codes used or if you wish to keep the current settings please ask for the data transfer of
your current model to the new replacement one
- a photocopy of the proof of purchase, i.e. a cheque stub or credit card statement.
Our address is:
One For All UK Ltd.
P.O. Box 5363
Northampton

Notes:
- We recommend you send the package `recorded delivery` for insurance against loss.
- The delay related to the permanent disabling of the vibration switch can be up to 4
weeks

So I`ve sent mine off & asked for the vibration switch to be disabled, hopefully it`ll now be sorted...

I too have suffered the same problem. I took mine back to the store and they replaced, although it appears to suffer from the same thing!!! So much for their battery life readings!! I shall see if I still have my receipt and follow their advise.
