Can anyone help me remove macrovision on my compacks 101 I want to back up some of my old vhs copies and it wont let me on all of the tapes as it says they are protected. I rmember reading somewhere on this site about a firmware burn or remote hack to turn it off but I cant remember where . Can anyone please help I ve been to the compacks site and all I could find was the multiregion burn which I dont need as my other dvd player ( plu2 divx) is already multiregion hacked.

Someone correct me if I`m wrong but it is the output device which needs the Macrovision disabling - and seeing your output device is a VCR I don`t think that is possible. You need a special type of SCART cable that "conditions" the signal and removes the effects of Macrovision, available HERE :)

Correct.Disabling Macro on the player would allow dvd-dvd(vhs) copying, but your vcr needs one of those leads to allow copying out

Hi

I was interested in your posts, as I`ve just bought one of the Compacks 101. Haven`t quite got it out of the box yet, but read through the manual. The main reason I got it was to copy all my Music videos (Mostly concerts from TV or traded with others). For this reason I`m not too bothered about the Macrovision thing, as they`re not on pre-recorded tapes. One thing I noticed though, was that there doesn`t seem to be a way to mark your own chapters within particular titles (i.e. To split concerts into songs), though there are automatic chapter marks 4 mins, 10 mins etc. Is this correct, or am I reading this wrong?

Also spotted the Erase disc section. This doesn`t specify that it only applies to DVD RW. Is this just an error in the book, or Can you really erase DVD Rs before you finalise them?

Finally to connect from a video. Is it just Scart to 3 pin Audio/Video cable? My VHS doesn`t seem to have an S video Out.

Any help would be great (by yourself or anyone) and I`ll try out MP3s to answer your query on that.

Cheers

Steve

If you erase a -r disc you loose the disc ie. it doesn`t free up useable space.

The video connection is indeed scart to 3 RCA plugs (red/white/yellow). There is no scart in on this recorder.
