i am just about to buy my first dvd player and have read loads of reviews and am still unsure, do i go for a brand named player witch all seem to need a chip mod for multi region and wont play R.C.E disks, or do i go for remote hack dvd players. i have a buget of £200.00 but could go £50 higher for really good player. it will be connected to panasonic 29"AD2 T.V with R.G.B scart or s .vhs many thanks

I recently bought my first DVD player. I bought a Philips 711 for £175 from www.dabs.com (2 free Bond movies included). I think Richer Sounds are selling it for a similar price but I dont know if you get the free movies. You will need a OneForAll remote ( I bought a OneForAll 4 Digital £23? from Argos) to do the hack. See here :-

So for £200 you get a multi region DVD with an intact warrenty + OneForAll remote.
Theres a good review of the 711 on this site :-

Hope this helps

Stewart.

you can get the Hitachi 505 at empire direct for 216, it plays VCD`s, XVCD,SVCD,MP3 and with the firmware from my site it is multiregion and macrovision disabled.

The scan Sc2000 is not a bad player. If you do go for a cheap player then make sure you can update the firmware you self or I would stay a way from the cheap players as all have had problems with one or two disc`s (and some of the pricy players to).

Now the some players can update the firmware with a CDR and some can not. the ones that can be updated with a cd can overcome the problems with certin discs. the other players have to be returned to the shop to be updated. untill your GTee runs out that is. then you get no updates.

any way i have confused you with my rambling and bad english so if you would like more info or owners opinions on the scan come over here
