Any ideas on the dvd-r recorders?

BenSherman2 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 3rd June 2004, 15:18

Hi anyone tell me which is the best spec/value dvd recorder (dvd-r), on the market money aint really a problem, keep hearing different opinions on Phillips/Panny recorders, I always buy Sony gear normally, but I only need this recorder to put vhs (spit) onto dvd-r discs and perhaps some of the tv, any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks guys and gals.

Philips is dvd+r so forget that. If you need a basic recorder (no hard disc) in dvd-r then the Panasonic E55 can`t be beaten and don`t listen to any other view.

Check out the LiteOn LVW5005. I think LiteOn is part of the JVC group or at least uses the same mechanism. This recorder will burn to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW as well as CD &VCD. It also has DV-input so your digital camcorder images can go straight to digital DVD.

A friend of mine bought his from DVDWorld (www.dvdworld.co.uk) and he loves it.

Anyone interested in quality will avoid the Lite-on,as it has no RGB,or even s-video input.Uniquely crap among dvd recorders.
Having said that,if you are recording from analogue it won`t be a problem, and multi format could prove occasionally useful
