Page 1 of Jerky DVDs
Hardware Forum
My dvds have started to jerk and pause slightly every few minutes or so.
I have cleaned the dvds themselves but still the problem persists. Even some of the menu screens jerk, and while watching a brand new dvd yesterday, the picture froze just before the end credits and the screen said `disc cannot be played`!!
When I ejected the disc and put it back in, I scene selected the end credits and it played them perfectly.
Could this problem be erradicated with a dvd lens cleaning disc?
Does this sound like a serious fault or just that the lens needs a clean?
Any help appreciated.

Oh ok then. It is a Sony SLV D900 Dvd/Video combi, but I don`t think that will make any difference.

I`ve just read this on a FAQ page. Does this sound right to you?
Q. "Someone told me I should buy a DVD lens cleaner for my machine or buy a extended warranty with an annual service".
A. DVD lens do not need cleaning ( except maybe in a very smokey environment like a bar ) and DVD players do not need annual servicing or lens adjusting or anything else. There is no physical contact inside a DVD player. It is basically a highly accurate CD player. Extended warranties are strictly your decision but do not fall for the annual service scam and DO NOT use a lens cleaner!
If that`s the case, then why do they sell them!
