Reading DVD-RAM on Pioneer A07 (107) - questions?

ddevil (Competent) posted this on Monday, 31st May 2004, 12:57

I recently purchased a Panasonic E55 DVD recorder which is great, but I would like to be able to archive off edited DVD-RAM disks onto DVD-R. I noticed that the Pinoeer A07 (or oem 107) burner in is capable of reading DVD-RAM disks and was thinking of getting one to replace my A05.

Has anyone done this or something similar? Do you need any special s/w to access the DVD-RAM disks on the A07 or does the content/structure appear to be like any other DVD media? To get the DVD-RAM content onto the PC and then onto DVD-R I assume you would have to "rip" the source disk using DVD decryptor (or other similar programs) and then burn the result onto DVD-R?

Thanks in advance

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author. But I have a dedicated DVD RAM drive. I think the Pioneer will read the DVD-RAM ok & act as my dedicated drive does. I know there are several other software aplications but so far I have only used the TMPGEnc DVD Author. If you get a Pioneer drive & download the TMPGEnc DVD Author (trial version) I will happily give you further help.

Cheers Paull. I`ll get back to you when I take the plunge.

Hi Paull,

Well I took the plunge and I`m glad I did. I use the newly purchased Pioneer 107 burner to read the DVD-RAM disks and TMPGEnc DVD Author to import the DVD-VR files to author onto DVD-R. Works like a dream. :D Thanks again for the heads up. 8)

Incidentally, I found that Ulead DVD Movie Factory v3 was able to import the VRO data too, but complained about the audio track. I did try fiddling with TMPGEnc to demux the temporary mpeg file produced by Movie Factory into separate video & sound and then author with DVD Author but the resultant disk had out-of-sync video & audio (although it still played on my trusty old Toshiba SD220).

Thanks again
ddevil

Hi Jimbo,

that`s strange the ability to read DVD-RAM is one of the 107`s advertised features. :o What version of firmware are you using? I`m on 1.16.

p.s. what`s an HL ST drive btw?

Not really...I actually have a 104 and was very very tired when I posted above! Lol :D

Call me daft ;)

Anyways, still like to know what ya used to convert the VRO to VOB

Jimbo : oÞ
(And it`s actually an HL-DT-ST drive, made by Hitachi Lead Data Systems or summat (LG/Hitachi unit I believe) and it`s just a DVD Rom drive)

Ah yes, know the problem Jimbo ;) Too many late nights studying DVD reviewer forums. lol! :D

Anyways, I use TMPGEnc DVD Author (thanks again Paull for the recommendation) which can import VROs with ease :) I do basic editing on the E55 (inserting chapters, cutting out adverts etc.) then import to DVD Author on the PC (via the Pioneer 107 drive) to create the standard VOB DVD structure which I burn to a DVD-R with Nero. All seems to work flawlessly 8)

Just one question maybe for Paull...how do I insert music into menus using TMPGEnc DVD Author? That`s something I do miss from Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3.
