Subwoofer spikes

Derren (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 26th May 2004, 12:23

I`ve got a Yamaha sub that has no spikes, or holes for any, and was wondering whether I can attach any to the bottom of the unit without damaging it, or the sound. I have seen some plastic stick on spikes in a hi-fi shop but they cost a bag load of cash and didn`t come to a fine point at the end, so would rather use metal spikes if poss.

Any recommendations?

In the past, someone on this site recommended cutting two squash balls in half an placing them under the sub/speaker. I`ve used this method ever since - and have a much deeper bass than previously before. Try it for yourself, and see that spending £4 is just as effective as spending £20 on spikes.

Shouldn`t need spikes if you have good sturdy floor
however placing the subwoofer on a slab of stone produces good bass
thats what REL recommend

Unfortuanately I have a wooden floor, although quite stable. I do however have a couple of squash balls lying around ever since giving up squash.......well, I was missing valuable film watching time, or something like that!!!

Cheers guys.
