I`m not sure of the Sony inputs but, if you have a phono input then plug the turntable into that (too obvious I expect). If not you need to buy a `Pre Amp` that goes between the turntable & the Amp. You can also use most mixers to do this.

And if you look underneath or on the rear of your turntable, there may be a switch marked "PRE: On/Off" which does the same thing.

Otherwise, as Paull says, a pre-amp will cure it if the Amp has no "Phono" or "Turntable" connection.

You`ll know if it can`t handle it, as it will sound very very low and as if your speakers have blown if it needs the pre amp.

I bought The Pro-ject Debut II Turntable a couple of years ago. It is highly recommended. At the time it was about £110-00. You can buy a version with the pre amp already in for a little more. I am very happy with it. I use it to transfer my LPs & 45s to CD. If you are looking for a cheaper one,I believe `Bush` do one about £42-00 ish that seems to be recommended but I felt it was a little plasticy. If you are careful you could also find a cheap secondhand turntable.

The Bush one works OK, is small, and does have a built in pre amp.

Thanks again.

How about this one then?

Will it do the job?

This is the same as I bought to transfer my vinyl LP`s to mp3`s via my computer, using Easy cd creator, and does include a preamp that allows it to play thru any amp with L/R phono inputs.

And it`s 10 quid cheaper than I paid, and post free :/

Go for it.
