why do region 1dvd`s play in black and white?

i have a sony ns305 dvd player..it plays r2 discs perfectly..when playing r1 discs its playin them in black and white...how do i get to watch them in colour?
is my machine region free cos it playes r1 discs?..just not in colour or do i need a converter of some sort...any help is appreciated

Its probably that your tv is not capable of playing NTSC in colour. I had the same problem but when i got a new tv everything was fine..

Or there may be a setting in your dvd players menu which will allow you to change playback from PAL to NTSC, something along those lines.

Sure someone will come up with a better answer than me coz these guys helped me resolve the problem when I had it...

If it is playing the disc then it will be a multi-region player. If it`s B & W it may be because your TV can`t display NTSC but I would think it`s more likely to be that you need to switch your DVD player to output RGB picture. Try to go to AV1 on the TV if possible..
