Those machines are fine untill you plug them into a £1500+ tv, then you realise why they have a bad rep.

Why would you spend £1500+ on a TV but then under £200 for a DVD player? Thats just crazy.

You could split the £1500 and get a cracking TV and a cracking DVD player. I would at least. Yup.

Aye.

I had a cheap tv and player but then replaced the tv which then showed how crap my player was, so I bought a £500+ player and a £700+ sound system.

Is that a good enough answer?

Regarding the comment about the scan and the £1500 tv.
We recently purchased a panasonic 34" widescreen tv(and they dont come cheap) and a panasonic dvd player also top of the range.
I have connected my scan sc2000 up to the new telly and guess what?
It performs every bit as well as the panasonic and the quality is excellent.

I would suggest you try these things before making comment.

xeno

up the irons!!!!!!!!

ps with the panasonic there is no mp3/vcd/svcd/macro disable, region hack, firmware upgrades, feedback from manufacturer and not much change out of £500.

I did buy a good tv, a Toshiba 28" with Dolby digital, now why did I only spend £175 on a scan DVD, well it is very versatile and upgradeable...

Do I regret buying the Sc2000, not a bit. The picture quality is excellent, Mp3`s playing all day is superb. OK so I did have to upgrade the Firmware to play a Disney CD, THAT IS THE POINT, the machine can be upgraded easily. If I now had the choice would I buy the top choice Sony with onboard DD/DTS decoding maybe, but then I wouldn`t have the extra cash to spend on dvd`s, home automation etc. and when new dvd encryption techniques are used, can the Sony be upgraded to suit, not very easily. As for MP3s enough said.

£175 well spent and just to stress the point, my first machine was dead on arrival (jammed tray) it was a new one was delivered and the old removed within 4 days. The new machine therefore had to justify itself well after the cursing I initially gave, it has done so.

Well tricky dicky u must have a problem with your tele mine is a panasonic 36" tau wide screen and it produces a perfick picture. If the scan was £300 people would still buy it.
I buy things for the features it has, not because its a named brand
if i have to buy a named brand so be it but whos to say that the components in the cheaper brand are not the same in both products.
