DVD - VHS Connections

I stumbled across a review for the Philips 711 elsewhere on this site, & was quite surprised to read this bit,
" It seems the region hack disables Macrovision (I have made many good recordings ((for my own use!)) onto VHS without problems). "
I tried this, but the picture was less than excellent, (s***e actually!), so I was wondering what`s the best way of connecting up for doing this?
Cheers in advance

Depends on what you mean by "s***e" - i.e. lines across it or constant flickering - if so that means Macro probably hasn`t been disabled by the region hack.

However, it could also to do with what signal your DVD player is outputting to the VCR - the VCR will only really handle a composite signal, so you may need to tell your DVD to switch to that type. Also, if you`re hooked up to an amp by way of a digital connection (optical or coaxial) you`ll need to tell the DVD to output an analogue signal via the SCART.

The other thing to bear in mind is what Region are you trying to record - if it`s Region 1 chances are the VHS can`t handle the NTSC picture, although your DVD player should convert that to a PAL signal if it`s multi-region capable.

Not that I`d know anything about taping DVDs onto VHS, you understand...
