Page 1 of Pacific 1002 problem
Hardware Forum
My mother bought a Pacific 1002, which I made multiregion using the extremely easy hack.
The problem is that when we played an R1 version of `Office Space` the picture was extremely `jittery`.
No problem with actual picture quality, just that any motion is noticeably `jerky`.
Still watcheable,but not right !
R2 discs played without this problem before the hack, but I haven`t tried one again since the hack.
Any ideas ??? :/
This is a problem of converting from the American Region 1 NTSC television standard to the European Region 2 Pal TV system. Most cheap Chinese made dvd players can be hacked to do this and the Pacific is a good example. However, the not so good ones convert to something called `quasi Pal` ( I won`t bore you with the differences in terms of frequencies) rather than `true Pal` and the former records movement is a somewhat jerky fashion as you have seen. There is nothing you can do about this now but be aware of it in the future and look out for Pal 50 conversion - Dansai machines tend to have this.
snafu, you are right, however just to add.....
It all comes down to the TV been incompatible with the PAL-60. Most new TVs can accept PAL60 easy, but some older TVs cannot.
Can the DVD player output RGB? This would solve the problem right away as just about all TVs will accept RGB.
Hope this helps.

Cheers for the info.
I did suspect it was a PAL problem, but didn`t know enough about it.
The player is connected by scart and is sending an RGB signal.
Region 2 DVD`s definitely do not have the jerky movement problem.Only R1`s.
It`s not an old TV.It`s an LG portable with built-in video, and it`s no more than 2 years old.
Tks again
I have this Player and had the same problem. Try going into the setup and changing the TV type to NTSC. I did it and expected the TV to throw a wobbly, but to my surprise it cured the problem!
Cheers for that Big P22
I`ll give it a go
I`m sure it`s set on `auto` just now.
Going to NTSC may cure the problem if your tv can accept a raw NTSC signal, most new ones can so worth a go. Tell us if it works.
I fiddled about last night and changing it to NTSC cured the problem.
I changed it back to PAL after that as it`s 90% R2 discs that will be used.
I think the moral is that the `auto` function on the 1002 is mince !
Cheers for the advice lads.
