Disc compatibility

Steve Digi (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 9th January 2004, 12:21

I have a Sony GX3 and find it annoying that I can only use the edit features (split / A-B erase etc) with -RW discs formated in VR mode. >:(

These discs even when finalised will not play in any other player even another sony DVD player.

I may have to record onto +R and edit via PC. Does anyone know of any software for editing video files VOB etc.

I have a similar problem with my new JVC DR-M1 DVD recorder. I formatted a DVD -RW disc in video mode, finalised it then tried to play the disc in my 1 year old Pioneer DCS 303 Home cinema player. The disc would not play even though the Pioneer should play this type of disc according to the instruction book. The disc played fine on my daughters cheap and cheerful Dansai 825 player.
Anyone have any ideas why the Pioneer would not play this disc (Packard Bell x1 speed DVD -RW bought from PC World)?
