SCAN SC2000 V1.80 and V2.14

NiVZ (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 15th February 2001, 16:32

I downgraded to v1.80 and back up to 2.14 to see if this improved the picture problems.

No success I`m afraid. One point worth noting is I downgraded to v1.80 and enabled VCR friendly mode (confirmed 00000001 in SSW).

Upgraded to v2.14 again and VCR Friendly mode had been disabled. Entered SETUP, STEP, TITLE, PREV and VCR Friendly is enabled again.

I`ve got a few other things to try, but I`ll keep posting.

I still get pixelation and smearing problems when watching DVD`s using v1.80.

I`ve now re-upgraded to v2.14 again.

Finally saw the WRITING message. It appeared above the TDVD-000.ROM message for a second, but then became scrambled.

Have to talk to Nelley.

I had that scrambled message as well, did the SETUP, STEP, TITLE, PREV ect to hopefully disable the macro, still not had time to get a dvd and test it yet, so lemme know how you go would you?

Hello...

When I upgrade to a new firmware I follow the following procedure.

Step 1: Install Version 1.80.... (Doesnt display WRITING / DONE message)

Step 2: Install Version 1.80 again (WRITING / DONE message now appears)

Step 3: Install the new firmware version... (Writing / Done appears, but abit sccrambled.)

I found this method cured the pixellation problem I had. But it doesnt mean to say it will work with every other machine, so try it at your own risk.

Installed v1.80 - no writing message
Installed v1.80 again - blinking writing message which changes to done.
Installed v2.14 - writing message which scrambles (when it attempts the first blink)

I haven`t looked at all my DVD`s yet, but The Matrix looked pretty clear. I`m still getting some bright colour streaking though.

Does anyone else notice a faint line down the entire screen about 1/3 from the left when connected using SCART(RGB)? I noticed it before the upgrade. It`s not a definite line, as the picture colours over it, but it`s noticeable none the less. Anybody got any ideas?

The faint line you are talking about seems to affect most of the tv`s i have seen when using rgb-(DVD PLAYERS AND GAME CONSOLES).

Would you say Nivz that there has been an improvement in picture quality after running 1.80 twice and then upgrading to 2.14 compared with the previous attempt of going from 1.80 - 2.14

I`m generally pleased with the pic quality just now in RGB mode, but there is still a bit of `movement` in background images when using composite.

The blockyness in dark images seems to have gone though, but I still have the bright colours streaking to the right.

I dont have any bright lines on the DVD picture playback..

Have a Sony Trinatron wide screen...

Dont think you have to downgrade firmware to disable macrovision....
You can either disable it or not depending on the version you upgrade to
(i.e. Version 2.04 or 2.14 on herbis dubios site)

I have found that downgrading i.e. installing version 1.80 twice has cured some artifact problems.

Its like Microsoft Windows.... Bring out a new version which fixes existing bugs, but creates some new ones aswell.

I`m happy with version 2.14 at the moment from Nivz site... No picture jumping or pixellation.

I have my DVD player connected to the TV via S-Video to scart and to VHS via Scart RGB to scart RGB... both leads are gold plated and shielded. about £20 per lead..good results.
