Hardware Rental companies??

philbw (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 10th December 2003, 16:45

Are there any places left that rent hardware?? We no longer have a Granada or Radio Rentals, etc. in our area. So are there any online suppliers? I`m looking to rent a DVD Recorder before I take the plunge and buy one - is it possible?

If you live in the North West/Midlands seek out Martin Dawes - they`ve got DVD recorders for reasonable prices there (I`m about to plump for a Panny TV and DMR-E50 for £30 a month)

There was a prog on tv earlier about a well known rental company from South Wales where you pay for your goods by a £1in the meter for X amount of use and the company are under investigation for shafting customers , under their t&c`s if you rent an item and say you have paid off ( for example ) 90 % of the agreement so then decide you will add something else and then pay another 90 % and then add something else and so on etc you could be paying for 20 years and not own a single item as to own any item the debt has to be cleared and each time you add something on an existing debt it starts afresh , one case mentioned was where a woman who had been having items for 14 years non stop had died and they came and repossed the whole lot and her family thought that only the newer washing machine would be taken back.

Not all companies are cowboys but still read through the contract carefully before signing up.
