ASDA Guarantee

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Friday, 21st November 2003, 12:05

My brother bought a Sanyo widescreen telly last week.
He was told it was a year`s guarantee only as they had stopped the 3 year thing.
I see people here are still saying it`s a 3 year guarantee on their DVD players though.
Anyone know the definitive answer ?
I tried their website but it`s useless, unless you want some bananas delivered.
Cheers

I was in Asda yesterday and there was a sign up in the electrical department that said something along the lines of:

"All our electrical products come with a 1 year guarantee"

It`s a pity as I think that the inclusion of the 3 year guarantee got them quite a few sales.

Seems a bit confusing though coz in my Asda on Saturday last week they had a 32" widescreen TV with a 3 year Asda guarantee sticker on the box. So would/should they honour it if it is on the box?

They don`t have to honour it by law, although they might as they can probably afford it for the sake of customer service

Errr....sorry to disagree, but if it`s listed on the box clearly, with no possibility of misunderstanding (ie: 3 year guarantee, not 3 yrs parts or 3 yr available etc) then by law, they MUST honour it.

I think you`ll find that they now have a selection of products they still offer the 3 year thing with, or some older stock they still give a 3 year with and have moved to giving one year as most other retailers do.

As a student working P/t at ASDA i can confirm that if the box has a sticker saying 3 year guarantee for the sake of argument they will honour it. However the 3 year guarantee has completely stopped as the store was losing a lot of money because some people were exploiting it which is a shame for the honest buyers. We were getting people bringing back DVD players from 3 years ago, saying they were faulty people were demanding models of an equal price which is quite hard with Pacific and low price Phillips players so people were gettin their money back then buying a better player at a snip of the price. Anything bought before the first week of november will be covered by the three years though.
