I have just bought a dvd player ( phillips 711) and find that if I pause the disc and turn the volume up I can hear the soundtrack from the normal channels (at the time it was the Eastenders theme tune). Needless to say this did not add to the atmosphere of the latest Stargate episode.
I have the dvd linked directly to the tv via a scart lead and a video linked to the dvd with a scart. Any suggestions?

Maybe try a good quality shielded cable. It is possible the scart from DVD to TV is picking up induced signals. Sounds probable. Do you recieve your terrestrial signal through your VCR?? If so, try and disconnect your DVD from the VCR. See what happens.
