Question about a cheap DVD player from Amazon UK
Sorry if this has been discussed before but was wondering if anyone here has gone for the Yamada DVD 5520 Multi-region DVD Player from Amazon UK, and if so, is it as good as it sounds for the money ( £39 ) with free postage thrown in.
TIA
Nick

Fellas
Ordered 2 of these from Amazon, & both do not play R1 disks.
Plays everything else it claims great!
Anyone know why? Apart from the obvious answer?
I`ve heard other ppl have the same prob.
Have contacted Amazon letting them know `how dissapointed I am`
No reply back yet, seriously p***ed of with this.
Fast pick up of disks though, can`t fault it on anything else.
Has anyone tested it with a Kodak photo CD yet?

RE: Question about a cheap DVD player from Amazon UK
I have bought the Yamada 5200 and it has played everything I have through at it including Region 1, JEPG burn on a cdr, VCD. One thing that did not work is a screen show setup with ProShow Gold but this could be down to the CD i am using according to their helpdesk. For £40 I would definetely recommend this player.

Thanks for the feedback
Seen a few people say that R1 playback is a problem, but looks like most players work ok. Fingers crossed the new batch the`re getting in will be better.
For that price have to give it a try anyway
thanks again
Nick.

Dont want to start a storm but the Alba DVD45 from argos for 37.99 seems pretty good for the price given these are going to be secondary players.
It too supports MP3, Jpeg`s piccys, DTS, Dolby digital.
Plays RCE region 1 no probs !
I heard from local stockist that yamada DVD caused so much grief in the returns theyve stopped trading in them now.

Got a reply back from Amazon offering to replace both players & pay for the postage.
Will keep you posted on what the next 2 are like, fingers crossed...!

Latest news from Amazon
`To rectify the situation, we will shortly be sending you a CD-ROM and easy to follow, simple, installation instructions, which will enable you to easily upgrade your DVD player to offer the same level of multi-region playback capability as would have been the case had the product been properly configured at the outset. Please note that this upgrade will not affect your warranty or any other statutory rights`.

Thanks for the update LuggyBear.
At least it seems like the multi region issue can be sorted easy enough.

RE: Question about a cheap DVD player from Amazon UK
Quick update from me.
The player turned up a few days ago and worked perfect straight out the box.
even managed to play a couple of non standard vcd`s fine ( as in lower audio and frame rates.. didn`t know what I was doing at first )
also plays NTCS films on my old TV that cant handle the output from my other DVD player, so guess it converts to a real pal signal, and not Pal 60 like most.
tried the machine with dvd;`s r1 , r2 and rO
vcd`s, svcd. ( cdr and cdrw ) Jpegs, mp3`s All played fine.
The osd can be a little annoying. when you have the image zoomed in, you cant get rid of the osd overlay saying what zoom level you`re at or the box showing what part of the image you`re looking at, but that`s a very small gripe, considering what else it does well.
so if you are lucky enough to get a good one I think it`s a great little piece of kit for a silly price.
