i have an alba 114 wich wont play dvdr or cdr but will play cdrw .....mosts posts on this player suggest that it plays everything...would the firmware flash sort this ?

Probably if you can find a firmware update, to date I aint found one for this player :/

i found a firmware upgrade and used it but wheni put the cd in the dvd it comes up
boot disc then booting....... then goes onto standby
dunno if its supposed to or not?? got the upgrade from www.powerglitch.com

You insert the CD, it starts to boot (with appropriate messages). After this, the player goes into standby for a few seconds, then comes back on again.
At this point, the front panel LED display should read "10". You need to press PLAY on the remote in order to continue.
The display will then count 11, 12... and so on. Eventually the disc will eject, and the player will turn itself off. At this stage, you need to unplug the player from the mains, then plug it back in - once you`ve done that, you should be up and running with the new firmware.
Note that this only works for the Alba 114 (and Bush 2024) with the STi5508 or STi5519 chipset. If a reply to my original thread is to be believed, there are 114s knocking around with a completely different motherboard and chipset.
