Page 1 of Ghost bars
Hardware Forum
My mate has just bought a new SONY television (not sure of the model - but it`s a new one). The television reception is awful (apparently he is too close to the transmitter).
Because of this, there are ghost bars running through the picture.
1. Should these disappear if he has SKY installed?
2. The same bars run through the picture when he is playing DVDs - anyone know why this is happening?
Cheers,
DSM
I can`t remember the name of the thing at this mo but get him to phone an ariel specialist. There is an inline `thingy` that stops the problem he has. Sky should not have the problem if going in through scart.
When I saw the title of this thread I thought it would be about a pub where ghosts hang out
Those pesky Maori`s have nicked my sandwiches again
Wonder if they serve spirits? :D
In answer to the questions:
1) see answer to 2
2) This is probably the well known 2-way SCART interference problem - have a look at this thread for details. If you cut the wire as described, you should get an interference-free picture with Sky and DVD.

If its a cheap Scart lead, maybe the one supplied with dvd player or vcr, make sure the RF lead and Scart are not intertwined. If it is an aerial problem you can remove the aerial to make sure the interference stops. If it does not then you may find it easier to buy one of the switchable Scart leads so you can make it one way.It might be easier than cutting pins.Powerhouse or any big electrical shop should have them for about £12.

If the terrestrial broadcast signal is too strong, then you need an in line attenuator. They`re sold in various strengths i.e. 3dB, 6dB etc at places like Radio Shack or Maplin.

"in line attenuator"
That`s the thing I couldn`t remember.
