Blank DVD-R Media for Panasonic DMR E50 - Compatibility Question

Fitz (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 9th July 2003, 19:20

A simple question I hope. What in terms of brand and/or speed is the most suitable DVD-R media for the Panny DMR E50 ? I have heard some horror stories on another forum to the effect that some 4X can knacker the laser. I have recently bought some Memorex 4X from blankdiscshop. They list the E20 and E30 as being OK, but they don`t mention the E50. Wonder if this is just an oversight ? Thanks in advance.

I have used 3 different makes and all have worked . They were Datawrite 4x Red top. Bulkpaq generation 3 purple top and Datawrite 4x general purpose white top.
The red top ones played ok in the DMR but there was a little bit of pixelation in my standalone.
The other 2 were no problem.
One more thing the Bulkpaq disks, I have been told, do not work in every standalone.
You will probably get a lot of differing opinions as to what is best and a few horror stories so it will be up to you which disk to use.

I have an E-50 and have hade major probs with disc compatibility. On my first order I bought 25 Bulkpaq orange 4x discs. Every single one work no problem.

My second order I bought some Datawrite 4x red top and none would seem to work.

Sent those back and ordered some more Bulkpaq, the first few worked fine, but suddenly I started having probs again. So much so that I started to pee me off.

I have spoken to lots of people, being in the trade! And the general feedback is not to use cheap discs! I have been told Datawrite are very low quality! Bulkpaq not much better. My friend has a E-20 and uses Verbatim, and never had a problem.

I have just placed an order for some optodisc, it states no problems with panna machines. Guess we will see, I hope they are okay, just ordered 50 of em.

I think its a case of trial and error.

i had similar probs with purple bulkpaq discs were as i`d used 2 spindles (25 ea) with no probs went back the next week got another spindle and none of them worked, the only thing i can think of is that they had different batch-no so i assume the makers changed something in the manufacture proces, i have since only used yellow 1x data-write with absolutly no probs + compatability is excellent so far i`v used over 530 of these discs with no failures or issues.

HOPE THIS HELPS

I have used the Ritek Dye 4 speed, from 121cdr.co.uk, they have worked fine.

It may also be of interest that at 7dayshop.com they have Panasonic 4.7Gb DVD-RAM for £17.99 a pack of 5. Panasonic Branded !!!

If only everything was half price at Woolies !

Hi.

I use Datawrite DVD+RW/R discs in my philips DVD Recorder and haven`t had a problem with this make so I can`t see why it sould be any different with -RW discs.

They don`t seem a bad make to me at all.
