Settings when backing up to tape?

VICKNMART (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 22nd May 2003, 19:49

I have recently purchased a Dansai 1010 from Tescos for £59.97 and have upgraded the firmware as listed in earlier threads. I am very pleased to say that I can now play vcd`s and svcd`s, the machine is multi region, and I have turned off the macrovision.
My question is that when backing up my discs to tape I don`t know what settings to use. The vcr can be set to auto, 4:3 or 16:9. The DVD player can be set to 4:3 PS, 4:3 LB or 16:9.
Any ideas guys?

It depends. Do you intend to play the tapes back through a widescreen TV (or 4:3 TV which has a 16:9 mode)? If so, you`ll probably want to set the DVD player to 16:9, to get the best possible resolution from anamorphic widescreen DVDs. Otherwise, set the player to 4:3 LB.

Just leave the VCR set to auto - if this feature works properly, it should automatically output the correct flags for widescreen switching when playing back the tapes.
