JVC XV-N55SL "it does exactly what it says on the box"
Popped to Comet this evening, took a few of my disks what a machine, plays the lot....this is JVC`s 2003 edition and for £149.99 i aint grumbling.
Looking over the net to get further review`s i stumbled upon this
http://www.videodirect.com/jvc/dvd/xvn55sl.html (see for yourself)
The JVC XV-N55SL introduces the all-in-one player that people are looking for in JVC`s slimmest (45mm) and stylish design. It handles much more than DVD and CD playback -- other supported formats include DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, SVCD and VCD; recordable CD formats CD-R and CD-RW; plus JPEG images and WMA and MP3 audio formats. The stylish blue illuminated front panel will instantly catch your eye. This illumination can also be dimmed when desired.
Don`t let the slim design fool you, the XV-N55SL is packed with many exciting features such as Express Play Start, a new high-resolution GUI (Graphical User Interface), 3-D Phonic sound, variable and slow search, 6-Step zoom play, and a 30-disc resume function. Optical and Coaxial digital audio outputs with Dolby Digital and DTS pass-through are provided for easy connection to any system.
Only downside would be it doesnt have 5.1, but when connected through my sony cinema sound and using the players own built in 3D phonic sounds my floor was a shakin.
Comes set as a region 2, but i`m sure some genious out there will hack it sooner or later.
Anyway after messing about with a few asda models i`m more than pleased with this machine and i know it`s early days but it gets a big thumbs up from me.

My mate bought one last week from Makro for £113 incl VAT
Cheapest I could find multiregion on the net was £116 + delivery.
Very smart player.
Only thing I would note is that we both noticed the picture from my Pioneer 454 is better.JVC picture is quite `grainy`. We both have the same model of TV and we both have the same means of connection so it`s a fair comparison.
Still, for £113 it`s really very smart and looks were the deciding factor for him.

I have this player and could not be happier. I have a phillips tv that suffers from the dark picture on RGB but with this player the problem is completely solved.
Out of interest I find no grain whatsoever with my player!
I had a pioneer dv-525 before and this wipes the floor with it in both picture and sound!

I must say..
£149.99 is quite some price to have paid for it though...
Around £30-£40 more than most other places on the net.
Looks like my mate got a bargain from Makro !
RE: JVC XV-N55SL "it does exactly what it says on the box"
£149.99 is inclusive of VAT, so in effect i paid about £17 more from comet than at Macro. But to be honest the faffin around of checking one site to another then waiting for delivery i couldnt be arsed hanging around, plus comet is only 5 minutes away from my house but i agree £113 + VAT is a bargin for this exellent machine..
Just to note watched my first film last night and the picture is crystal clear no graining at all??
I am over the moon with this machine as i said "it does exactly what it says on the box"
Rich... :)

Makro are actually charging £113 Including the VAT.
Could you not get a price match refund ?
I know Comet won`t price match internet prices but surely they should pricematch your local Makro ?
RE: JVC XV-N55SL "it does exactly what it says on the box"
just out of interest, since this looks a really nice player, can anyone who has one tell me how noisy it is when running?
i know that this may seem a strange question but i have a really small room and i have already taken one dvd player back (a tosh 220) because of how loud it was when playing cd`s.
cheers chaps
RE: JVC XV-N55SL "it does exactly what it says on the box"
The Tosh 220 is notoriously noisy.
I didn`t notice any noise when I connected up and tested my mates XV55.
RE: JVC XV-N55SL "it does exactly what it says on the box"
Mattski,
I can asure you this machine is quiet, no noise, no problems...
Popped in Makro today no JVC`s on sale but i`m going to try and price match as i brought a second JVC for my folks..
Cheers

Hi.. I wonder if anyone has worked out the region free hack for this device yet? If so, I would be SOOOOOO grateful!!
