Anyone know where I can get a reasonably cheap dvd player that is compatible with karaoke disks?

The best deal for a good all round DVD must be the Philips 634 (not made by them any more but some are still available from Blockbusters). This machine is hackable to multi-region by a few key presses on the remote and will play a wide variety of disks. I am not sure what a karaoke disk is - if this is not helpful try posting your question again but include more detail in your subject line so as to attract a quicker reply.

Good Luck.

That will play Karaoke DVDs but not true CDG karaoke discs.
These are also known as "CD+G" (meaning CD + Graphics).

Whilst I am aware that players capable of doing this exist, they are rare
and likely to cost more.

Any DVD player should play "DVD karaoke" discs ; the extra feature in your player (& in my H & B one) is the addition of 2 microphone inputs with adjustable reverb for singalong purposes.

Expect to pay 150 quid upwards for a DVD player that can play CDG format.

The 140 quid one is indeed CD+G compatible.

The Datwrite 40 quid thing only plays karaoke DVDs and may have a couple of microphone inputs.

As I said before, real karaoke is the CD+G (aka CDG) format.

I`ve had a look at the Datawrite one on a few different sites and they all state it plays CD+G disks. Cheapest anywhere else seems to be £89.99 so I think at £59.99 it`s a bargain and I`ve ordered one. Will post here again to let you know if it indeed plays CD+G disks as it states.

Things are looking up then.
I would call that a bargain for anyone wanting a combo of DVD AND CD+G.
Might even consider one myself.
Let us know how well it works on CD+G as well as on DVDs after you`ve tried both for a few weeks.
