Page 1 of Projectors from PCWorld? Any good?
Hardware Forum
I know they`re not the best but they have the
epson emp 30 - £899
800ansi, 800*600
epson emp 52 - £1199
1200ansi 800*600
epson emp53 -£1549
1700ansi 800*600
All with free projector screen.
For a cheap (read: as cheap as possible!) would these be any good? I`ve seen one in T3 for £1500 which does (i think) 1024*768 and got some good reviews (cant remember which one)
I`ve got a 28" TV at the mo so i`m guessing these would wipe the floor with it or would £800 be bettr spent on a decent TV?
(BTW i`d use the svga to output from a source if possible-i know im kinda comparing different things)

RE: Projectors from PCWorld? Any good?
Please spend a bit more time researching. I`ll bet the free screen will be pretty small, and probably 4:3 format. I must admit to not knowing much about the PJs you mention, but are they data PJs? I`d guess so from the brightnesses quoted. Brightness isn`t everything!!
The Panasonic AE100 (a native 16:9 panel) can now be had, for instance, for (IIRC) under £800. I have one, and it`s stunning. There have been some reports of reliability issues with the power supply, however.
I don`t think a PJ can replace a TV, but you can`t beat the big screen experience - for some more on my setup, have a look on http://www.areyoulocal.com/cinema.asp
The AVForums have a good load of info on PJs - have a look here http://www.avforums.com

New homepage Richard? looks nice. There is a bewildering array of projectors out there, and as you say there is beginning to be a split between data and home cinema projectors, such that I am now well out of my depth. I`d definitely reccomend seeing the output before buying anything these days.

Well, I had to keep the saddo pics away from the family website, as I got told off ;-) Just banged it together, no design as such - mind you that`s not my forte anyway.

Richersounds have a Sony for a grand and a Marantz for £1250 - I got a 6 foot screen from qxl.com for £50, so don`t worry too much about the "free" screen.
