A/V Receivers Marantz or Denon?
Can anyone give me some guidance on what A/v Receiver to buy.
The Denon 2802 is about £369 and comes highly recommended by all
Marantz sr4300 is about £100 cheaper but also looks good
If anyone owns one of these or has trialled both could you let me know what you think? Many thanks

I will say my usual and check richersounds and www.hyperfi.co.uk for last years bargians.
And http://www.kelkoo.co.uk is generally a good way to search for current models.
I have a Pioneer VSX-D1011 which can be picked up for £515 (£699 rrp) which i would say is worth the extra cash over the Denon - but if it over budget its over budget.
Both the Denon and Marantz are very good recievers - I also noticed Richersounds had a nice looking NAD for half price, if you can deal with the colour.
Have you decided if you want 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 yet?

Yup i agree with Occean, if your budget is low, just wait abit, the amp is the centre piece of your setup, i have the pioneer 2011vsx, which is a godsend with the auto speaker setup, because like probably most of us, when your watching a film you spend most of ya time saying that dont sound right and pausing to increase the vol on 1 output etc hehe.
now i just pop a mike in the room and dissapear for 10 mins and there perfect.
i picked it up from unbeatable.co.uk for 680 but i dont think they do em anymore, think i got a bargin :)

I think the Onkyo`s are worth looking at too.
TX-SR600E £399.95. http://www.avland.co.uk/onkyo/txsr600/ It`s well built, sounds fantastic and is reliable.
Hope this helps.

i have the marantz 4200 and i am well impressed
The Marantz 4300 will outshine the Denon 2802 with no worries at all, having heard on eit`s not the best amp in the world, but is superbly confiedent in delivery.
That`s all i can add to this thread - Marantz any day :-)

Many thanks for all your advice! I have to confess that on Occean`s suggestion I tracked down a Nad T741 at Richer Sounds - this is my first A/V amp and so far I am very pleased with it. Incidentally the Marantz did sound excellent when I heard it at the local store.
Thanks again
