Page 1 of Philips On Digital box problem?
Hardware Forum
My On Digital box suddenly started having problems from yesterday evening. It could be the remote - not sure.
The OnDigi Remote has TV Vol, TV Channel buttons and TV On Off buttons and they control my Philips TV fine. But the Box does not respond to any of the actual OnDigi controls - have changed the batteries etc.
The only way it seems of controlling the Ondigi box is by manually pressing the tiny (S) button on the box itself and then using the up down buttons on the box to select channel. The (M) button and the up/down/left/right buttons dont appear to do anything on their own.
So is it just the Ondigi part of the remote that has messed up? Seems odd that part of a remote can messupi but not all of it?
Or is the Box itself gone loopy seeing as only some of the buttons on the box seem to respond.
If you think it is the remote then does anyone know a cheap 3rd party multi control that will control the OnDigi box and let me access the menus and setup features etc?
Thanks.
RE: Philips On Digital box problem?
Mine does this very occassionally. The rememedy? Turn it off on the box and at the wall for a minute then turn the power back on. But im sure youve already tried this.......
RE: Philips On Digital box problem?
Not at the wall - just the button on the front.
Funny thing is the missus suggested turning it off at the wall and I just ignored here - like you do!
Will get her to try it and report back - cheers.
RE: Philips On Digital box problem?
Well she reckons she unplugged it for 1 minute or so plugged it back in and it hasnt made any difference.
Does anyone know of a Multi remote that might work with the box?
RE: Philips On Digital box problem?
Hi Harry,
I don`t know if you`ve resolved this yet, but I had exactly the same problem.
After changing the batteries, only the lower part of the handset worked. If the batteries aren`t swapped fast enough, the handset forgets the settings. You have to refer to the index in the Philips On Digital handbook for the codes for your model of TV and send them to the set via the remote.
Hope this helps,
Tony.
and also iirc the box itself
RE: Philips On Digital box problem?
Hello!
When Philips were still making these boxes, they sent out technical letters to all dealers. One was for the DTX6370. It says the following:
Procedure for resolving Sony TV conflict
To change the box from A to B follow this procedure:
1) Put the box into standby
2) Press and hold `M` button on the front of the box for at least 3 seconds until the front control panel displays `SA`.
3) Press the right ARROW button on the box to change the display from `SA` to `SB`.
4) Press the `S` button to complete the process.
The remote control now needs to be changed, follow this procedure:
1) On the box remote, press and hold the `standby` and `text` buttons for at least 5 seconds.
2) Using the number buttons, now enter a new digit code `161`
The Philips ONdigital unit and its remote are now programmed to use system B.
(Should the customer want to change their box and remote back to system A, the above steps should be repeated but the code entered into the remote should be 160.)
NOTE:
If there is more than a 10-second gap between the above sequence of button presses, the process needs to be started again from the begining. If after this procedure, your remote is without batteries for any longer than 1 minute, you may have to repeat the above process.
The reason I have told you this is that I beleve you or may have changed the mode on the remote control or the box by mistake without realizing that you`ve done it. Even if your box is not a DTX6370 I believe this process works for all Philips ONdigital boxes.
Hope it helps. If it doesn`t, your best resort my be to buy a new freeview box. The cost of a new remote control is almost as much as a new box!
