Can Anyone verify this? Tosh 220E being replaced?**Yes, Westy can!!**

Over on the Techtronics website I notice that they have the celebrated Toshiba 220E in their clearance sale. I wrote them to ask why this is, and they said that the 220E is about to be replaced later this month by the SD-330E. Now, if the Tosh track record is anything to go by, this sounds exciting. But . . .

Is this true? And does anyone know anything about the 330E`s specs?

Also, if I`m interested in buying sooner rather than later, I`m concerned about all the firmware updates that the 220E went through (I`m assuming for software incompatibility issues or whatever). Should I expect that the same will apply for the 330E? In other words, would it be a risky proposition to purchase one near the beginning of its release? I wouldn`t want to have to worry about DVD incompatibility issues (ie - freezing in normal DVD playback, etc.), as living in Belfast I`d probably order from the mainland UK and it would invovle expensive shipping if anything went wrong.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I`d wait a month and see what happens, if there are problems with the replacement you`ll soon hear about it!

I thought the same as our Philips DVD player has just packed in and thought I would replace it with the SD220 as everyone has gone on about how good it was.

I thought about waiting for the new model but at the end of the day what ever you buy will be replaced by something better within a few months so you could put it off for ever, how do I explain to my stroppy 3 year old daughter that she can`t watch Scooby Doo and Monsters Inc 3 times a day for the next 6 weeks and most importantly it is only £119 in Richer Sounds multiregion and the new model will be full RRP (£200 ish) for the first few months it is on sale.

Have to say it is an amazing player, looks very neat, good solid remote (very important with 2 little ones) DVD picture and sound are brilliant, CD playback very good, much better player that the £250 dual laser Philips it has replaced, definatly recomend them, I was told it will also play RCE disks by sales assitant but do not have an RCE disk to try it out, can anybody confirm if it will or not?

Happy Shopping, Gerald.

I wouldn`t recomment techtronics, I`ve had bad dealings with them.

It has been replaced, though stock of the 220e still remains high. See it here, already for sale ; http://www.leconcepts.com/dvd/toshdvd.htm

The 330e doesn;t do that much that`s better than the 220e in a DVD playback sense, but we shall see soon enough :-)
